3 Minute Baseball – 1/10

3 minute baseball

3 Minute Baseball is a condensed version of the famous baseball board game Strat-O-Matic for iOS.  It is free, but even at that price, I would not download it.  Without taking into account opinions of the board game, this review is strictly on the app at hand.  Quite simply, it’s a bad one.

The idea of Strat-O-Matic is to manage a baseball team to victory, making all the important decisions.  3 Minute Baseball gives you a total of 10 players (5 hitters, 5 pitchers) and it’s your job to pick the most favorable match-ups for the hitters to gather the most total bases.  With such a small selection size, the game quickly runs out of fun, but even so, when picking amongst these players, the stats are crunched together in one line with spaces in the wrong spots and are very hard to read.  Once you select your match-up, you’ll have to confirm it a bunch of times before you can start rolling the dice and seeing how chance is working out for you.  Oh and if you don’t happen to understand what’s going on at first, the instructions will not really help you get a grasp on the game.

The mere looks of this app are bad too.  The graphics look ancient and some of the text even hangs off the screen so that you can’t read it.  Seriously?  And the music is not a strong point either.  It’s too pushy to be background music, but doesn’t have enough content to be music you’d want to consciously listen to.  Board game not taken into account, this is a disaster of an app.  My advise: keep to board games and stay out of iOS unless you’re willing to come out with a full or fuller version of the real Strat-O-Matic game.  1/10.
